You might have forgotten, but Samsung and Google, in collaboration with Qualcomm, are developing a mixed reality headset. This partnership was announced last year, with an anticipated debut set for later in 2024. Although Google had no updates to share at the I/O conference about the headset’s progress, the company did hint at a new augmented reality (AR) experience for Google Maps, which could potentially be used with the upcoming device.

In Google Maps, users will soon be able to access AR content when searching for specific locations. By tapping the “AR Experience” button and raising their phone, users can see augmented content overlaid on the real world. This feature also works remotely via Street View, allowing users to explore AR experiences from around the globe without leaving their homes.
